NRESci at Fall Retreat

On September 25th- 27th Breathitt 4-H members of the NRESci Academy were able to attend the NRESci Fall Retreat in Jabez, Kentucky. At this retreat students were able to learn and work hands on with the science and natural resource topics of water quality, forestry, and wildlife. This was a great learning experience for these members to learn about their environment, and fun was had by all.  

What is it?

The Robinson Center NRESci Academy is a three-year experiece designed to help youth explore our environment and discover more water, forestry, and wildlife resources in the Appalachian region. 

When is it?

The Academy meets each fall for a 3-day stat at the UK Robinson Forest. 

Youth, also known as "scholars," will also take part in quarterly, one-day field trips throughout the year. Scholars are not counted absent from to attend these events according to KRS 159.035.

Who can attend?

All applicants must in the 5th grade at the time of application so that they are in the 6th grade during their first year as a scholar. Scholars must have a passion to learn about the environment and our natural resources and be willing to participate in the three-year program, including annual 3-day camps at UK Robinson Forest and quarterly, single day trips during the year. 

Timothy Warren Memorial Scholarship

The Timothy Warren Memorial Scholarship was established in 2017 to honor the life of Timothy Warren, a graduate of the NRESci Academy and a 2015-16 Academy Ambassador from Breathitt County. Full and partial scholarships are available annually to NRESci scholars. Applicants must be enrolled as a first, second, or third year scholar or ambassador for the upcoming NRESci Academy program year (starting September 1, 2017) at the time of application.
